the new home of Make a Difference to One Dog, our shelter and rescue dog project.

What is Make a Difference to One Dog?

“Saving one dog might not make a difference to the world, but it will make a world of difference to that one dog.” I don’t know who first said this, but I’ve heard several versions of it during the many years I’ve worked with shelter dogs. With the extraordinary number of dogs needing help, it’s overwhelming to think that helping just one dog even matters. As shelter workers and volunteers, that is what we do. Whether we clean kennels, or provide enrichment, or walk dogs, or stuff kongs, the most important dogs in the world are the ones in the kennels in front of us. This is how we make a difference.

Make a Difference to One Dog © (MADOG) is an all-volunteer project to help small, underfunded shelters make the most of what they do have to help their dogs. We train staff and volunteers to use their limited resources to improve the lives of the dogs in their care. We provide assessments and recommendations for enrichment, training, and stress management.  In addition to shelters, we offer no cost behavior and training consultations to rescues, and owners who have newly adopted shelter or rescue dogs.

New projects! We are partnering with some veterinarians and shelters in our area to offer presentations on a variety of dog-related subjects. Our first projects will be related to particularly challenging times in dog ownership - puppyhood  and adolescence. Check back for updates on the Services page.
